Pool installation for Horse Shoe properties
Horse Shoe is good ground for a pool. Much of it is close to level and equipment can generally get where it needs to be. We install all four shell types here: precast, fiberglass, gunite and container. There is a workable option for almost any lot in Horse Shoe.
The community takes its name from a meander in the French Broad River, which runs through the middle of it. The bend is more than a naming detail, because it is the reason the land is shaped the way it is. A river that loops leaves flat bottom land inside the loop, and that bottom land gives Horse Shoe easy digging by the standards of this region.
Roughly seven and a half square miles sit between Mills River to the north and Etowah to the west, with US 64 running through south of the river. The community lies twenty-odd miles from Asheville, and it presents a genuinely different building proposition from the steep ground north and west of the city.
Away from the river the land rolls and then climbs. Two Horse Shoe addresses can still be different projects, though the spread here is narrower than in most of the towns we work in.
The bend, and what it means for your dig
The flat land is the asset and the water is the caveat, and they come from the same feature.
On the bottom land, the digging is straightforward. There is less to cut, less to hold back, and much less material leaving your property. A crane can usually get where it needs to be. On a lot like that, a large share of what makes a pool expensive in this region simply is not part of the job.
Close to the river, water becomes the design problem. Low ground can carry a high water table, poor drainage, or floodplain constraints that decide where a pool can legally and sensibly sit. Water in the ground also lifts a pool, which is why drainage around and under a shell matters more on a river lot than on a hillside.
Both questions need answering before the shape of the pool is settled, not after it. On a wet lot the pool frequently wants to sit raised rather than sunk, which turns retaining into part of the finished structure instead of a repair.
